Why Thome Shipmanagement switched to Compas Cloud

Thome Ship Management’s recent history is a story of confident growth and diversification at a time of depressing uncertainty in the global shipping economy. But the company was backed by competent partners in making this possible.

Thome Ship Management Singapore needed an interruption-free transition to a higher operational capacity at a critical stage in their growth and diversification so that they could keep their most important day-to-day operations running as per usual without any disruption. The nature of the need defined their next steps as they moved from a legacy system for their crew management operations, which was installed on their workstations and servers in offices worldwide, to Compas Cloud, which is a remote located application accessible from any screen connected to the Internet.

The scale of operations at Thome and their geographic spread also prompted this decision more than anything else. At the time of moving from legacy systems for crew management to a cloud-based application, Thome’s network had 44 manning offices and six crewing agencies worldwide, managed 240 vessels on behalf of 79 principals, employed over 8,300 seagoing staff to do this job, and used 8 different travel agencies to ensure constant crew availability in all its vessels.

Compas had a few inherent advantages that probably no other crew management application boasted of. First of all, it was one of the first crew management systems operating wholly on the cloud. Besides being easy to deploy and use as well as being easy to access from any location, it was a highly stable and reliable system with minimum amount of downtime.

It was extremely user friendly and required negligible maintenance and system administration and it envisioned an onboard module that would make ship-shore integration a walk in the park.

Some of the major efficiencies of the cloud application include:
